Sinéad Cusack is an Irish actress known for her work on stage and screen. She was born on February 18, 1948, in Dalkey, County Dublin, Ireland, to actors Cyril Cusack and Maureen Cusack. She grew up in a family of actors and was drawn to the profession from an early age.
Cusack began her career on stage, making her debut in the 1965 production of "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" at the Wyndham's Theatre in London. She went on to perform in numerous plays in London's West End, including "The Cherry Orchard," "Much Ado About Nothing," and "The Taming of the Shrew." She also appeared in several productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company, including "The Winter's Tale" and "The Tempest."
In addition to her stage work, Cusack has also had a successful career in film and television. She made her film debut in 1969 in the movie "Alfred the Great," and has since appeared in a number of films, including "Stealing Beauty," "V for Vendetta," and "Eastern Promises." She has also appeared in several television shows, including "North and South," "Poirot," and "Call the Midwife."
Cusack's most notable role on television was in the BBC drama "The Bill," where she played Sgt. Jane Penhaligon from 1984 to 1987. She also appeared in the mini-series "The Rector's Wife" and "The Shell Seekers." In 1993, she won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her role in the television movie "The Snapper."
Despite her success in film and television, Cusack has always maintained her love for the stage. In 2000, she appeared in the Broadway production of "Our Town," for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She has also appeared in several productions at the National Theatre in London, including "The Crucible" and "The Duchess of Malfi."
Cusack's most recent work includes the 2019 film "Judy," in which she played the role of Ethel Gumm, the mother of Judy Garland. She also appeared in the television series "The Spanish Princess" in 2020, playing the role of Lady Margaret Beaufort.
