New Conservatory Theatre Center will present a world premiere commission in association with Golden Thread Productions this April. The Tutor is written by Golden Thread’s Founding Artistic Director Emeritus, Torange Yeghiazarian and directed by the company’s current Executive Artistic Director, Sahar Assaf.

Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company devoted to the Middle East will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its prestigious ReOrient 2019 Festival of Short Plays with seven fully produced short plays, two panel discussions, and a national convening of Middle Eastern theatre artists.

Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company devoted to plays from or about the Middle East, stages the U.S. premiere of Scenes From 71* Years, a James Tait Black Award-nominated play by Hannah Khalil documenting Palestinian life since 1948. Based on interviews with friends and family who have lived in the occupied territories, Khalil's groundbreaking work renders a 71-year history of Palestinian lives with disarming humor and resonant humanity. Highly theatrical vignettes of surprisingly familiar stories offer audiences of all backgrounds and vantage points a rarely-glimpsed window into the realities of life under occupation a perspective sorely lacking on American stages.

The catastrophic after-effects of teen suicide after anti-gay bullying is the subject of LATE COMPANY by Jordan Tannahill, a drama that explores questions of parenthood, the grieving process, tolerance, and forgiveness.

In January, New Conservatory Theatre Center presents Late Company, written by "the hottest name in Canadian theatre" (The Montreal Gazette), Jordan Tannahill and directed by fearless local sensation, Evren Odcikin. This gripping, fast-paced drama centers around a family grappling to find meaning and redemption after the suicide of their son, who was frequently bullied about his sexuality. In keeping with NCTC's foundation of anti-bullying activism and prevention, Late Company is proud to partner with No Bully, Queer Life Space, and San Francisco Suicide Prevention to increase awareness of the effects of cyberbullying on LGBT youth.

The Crowded Fire Theater (CFT) concludes its 2014 season with the World Premiere of THE LATE WEDDING by Christopher Chen opening with a press night on September 22 (Previews Sept. 18, 19, 20) running through October 11 at the Thick House in San Francisco's Potrero Hill. THE LATE WEDDING is both inspired by and a homage to Italian fabulist novelist Italo Calvino whose stories 'Invisible Cities' and 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveler' have become Chen's launching pad into a shadowy exploration into themes of distance, dislocation, and transience in internet-age relationships.
