Londons mest notoriska brottsling, Mackie Kniven, har precis gift sig med sin Polly. Hennes pappa, tiggarkungen Peachum, är dock så missnöjd med äktenskapet att han försöker få sin nyblivna svärson i fängelse. Vilket visar sig vara svårare än han tänkt sig eftersom polischefen råkar vara en av Mackies bästa vänner. Så börjar en vindlande och musikalisk resa i den undre världen bland tiggare, småtjuvar, prostituerade och korrumperade snutar.

French Actor Gaspard Ulliel Passes Away at 37
Ulliel lead Joe Orton's play Entertaining Mr Sloane on stage at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées in 2012. He had also appeared in Lars Norén's Démons at the Théâtre du Rond-Point Paris, under the direction of Marcial Di Fonzo Bo.

LITTLE EYOLF to Make UK Premiere
The National Theatre of Norway returns to the UK for the first time in 18 years with Little Eyolf, one of Ibsen's major but rarely performed prose plays. Director Sophie Jupither puts the child Eyolf at the centre in this production, probes the complex question of how our children fit within our adult relationships - and shows that Ibsen's people speak strongly to us today.
Scandinavian American Theater Company to Celebrate Lars Noren's 70th Birthday on 5/19
Producer Bo Corre, translator Marita Lindholm Gochman and Scandinavian American Theater Company, are presenting LARS NOREN TODAY: HIS WORK AND HIS WORLD on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 7pm at the Lynn Redgrave Theater in New York City. There will be a reading of selected scenes from his latest play 3.31.93. The version is being directed by Sofia Jupither who directed the world premiere at the City Theater, Stockholm in 2013. Wallace Shawn's THE FEVER Comes to La MaMa, Opening 1/24
La MaMa will present The Fever, a gripping play by Wallace Shawn (My Dinner With André, Vanya on 42nd Street, and Grasses of A Thousand Colors), in a new production directed by Lars Norén, one of Sweden's most prominent playwrights/directors, and featuring acclaimed French-Romanian actress Simona Maicanescu. This powerful dramatic monologue, written between 1985 and 1990 but more relevant now than ever, is a fierce, forensic examination of social inequality and the links between the affluence many take for granted and the poverty and suffering that haunt the lives of millions.
