What did our critic think of LITTLE WOMEN at Milwaukee Repertory Theater? Real. Just as you are. Those are a couple of the key themes in Kate Hamill’s new adaptation of the classic Little Women. On stage now at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater under the direction of Marti Lyons, Little Women opens with a cozy scene: a miniature house with a smoking chimney set against sumptuous red velvet curtains.

First off, Dear Readers, I want to wish the Seattle Rep a Happy 60th Birthday this week. They’ve had an impressive run. Having said that I wish I had a better Birthday gift for them as their current production of Louisa May Alcott’s classic “Little Women”, as adapted by Kate Hamill, was not all I hoped it would be. It’s a cute show with some good performances but an incomplete telling of this iconic tale.

A 2016 review in The New York Times called it 'The finest new play of the Broadway season so far - by a long shot.' What they don't say is, 'this play is dysfunctional and weirdly different.'
