The Museum of the City of New York presents its greatly anticipated permanent exhibition New York at Its Core. Five years in the making, New York at Its Core is the first-ever museum show to comprehensively interpret and present the compelling story of New York's rise from a striving Dutch village to today's "Capital of the World," a preeminent global city now facing the future in a changing world.

School of American Ballet's 2015 Winter Ball Raises Over $1.39 Million


The School of American Ballet's 2015 Winter Ball took place at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on Monday, March 9, 2015 and raised more than $1.39 million for scholarships and school programs. Legendary French jeweler, Van Cleef & Arpels sponsored the glamorous, black-tie dinner dance for the eighth consecutive year. The evening began with cocktails at 7pm and dinner at 8pm, followed by a student performance choreographed specially for the occasion, and The Encore dessert and dancing. The proceeds from this event enhance every aspect of the School's extraordinary ballet training program, helping to provide more than $1.9 million annually in student scholarships, as well as supporting faculty, maintaining world-class studios and offering vital student programs beyond the classroom.

The Museum of the City of New York just presented legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim with its Louis Auchincloss Prize at a gala dinner that included a musical tribute featuring Tony Award winners and nominees. Cabaret! will took place last night, November 19th; it was a rare opportunity to recognize a living legend, and in an intimate setting. Singing Sondheim favorites were some of musical theater's most talented performers, including Gregg Edelman, Harvey Evans, Judy Kaye, Howard McGillin, Victoria Mallory, and Sarah Stiles under the direction of Michael Montel and music director Larry Yurman. Museum of the City of New York Presents Hurricane Sandy Photography Exhibition on One-Year Anniversary, 10/28


On October 29, 2013, on the one-year anniversary of the day that Superstorm Sandy struck New York City and the surrounding region with devastating consequences, the Museum of the City of New York will open a major photography exhibition featuring images taken by both professionals and everyday New Yorkers who captured astonishing moments - including with smartphones - during the storm and its aftermath. The exhibition, Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy draws on work submitted by over 900 photographers, many of whom were personally and profoundly impacted by the storm.
