Shakespeare Theatre Company to Celebrate Free For All's 25th Anniversary This Fall


One of the capital's most beloved annual traditions, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) Free For All, and one of William Shakespeare's most beloved plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream, are coming together for a major milestone: Free For All's 25th anniversary. Ethan McSweeny directs a revival of his 2012-2013 STC production, which will run September 1-13 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW).

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), recipient of the 2012 Regional Theatre Tony Award, presents a world in moral free fall with director Jonathan Munby's evocative vision of William Shakespeare's play, Measure for Measure. Munby's production, which places Shakespeare's story in a Fascist, late 1930s Europe steeped in cabaret culture, presents the dual nature of humanity as both tragic and comic. The Spoon River Anthology travels to Brooklyn where it will receive an all-new production, conceived & directed Jimmy Maize, with music by Eli Zoller, choreography by Jon Cooper & Marine Sialelli, and music direction by Ethan Wagner, and featuring a cast of one-hundred performers, The limited engagement begins performances tonight, April 24 and will continue through this Saturday, April 28 at the Invisible Dog Art Center (51 Bergen Street in Brooklyn).

Edgar Lee Masters' epic work, The Spoon River Anthology, receives an all-new production, of unprecedented scale and scope, conceived & directed Jimmy Maize, with music by Eli Zoller, choreography by Jon Cooper & Marine Sialelli, and music direction by Ethan Wagner, and featuring a cast of one-hundred performers, with two special limited engagements: April 18 - 21 at The Riverside Theatre (91 Claremont Avenue located inside the Riverside Church between 120th and 122nd Streets), in association with Columbia University School of the Arts; and April 24 - 28 at the Invisible Dog Art Center (51 Bergen Street in Brooklyn).
