Honey Ribar BIO

Honey Ribar is a New York based performer. She was born on December 5th, 1989 and was raised in Eagan Minnesota.

She began singing at age five, where she sang for an audience of 500. Shortly after she became actively involved in theatre, and at age twelve she began recording music in the Twin Cities. She attended Eagan High School where she participated in Speech, Soccer, National Honors Society, and numerous Accapella singing groups all while juggling academics and numerous regional and high school productions. Some of her favorite roles include Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. During high school, Honey also got comfortable performing for large venues including the Minnesota State fair Grandstand, the Metrodome, and the Excel Energy Center.

After graduating, Honey moved out to New York where she attended NYU-Tisch school of the Arts. During this time Honey partook in numerous theatrical events including: Tisch (This is My Now) at Lincoln Center, Assassins (2nd Ave Theatre), Two Gentlemen of Verona (Abrons Art Center), Celebration (Playwrights Horizons), and House of Cards (Playwrights Horizons). She was also a part of one of the most well known accapella groups in the nation, The N’Harmonics.

After graduating a year early from NYU Honey immediately jumped into rehearsal for the New Musical “The Hills Are Alive!”, originating the role of Gerdy. During this time she continued performing at local concert venues around New York City, eventually landing herself a music job at the American Music Theatre.

Honey has traveled and performed with the Broadway Dreams Foundation to South Carolina, Atlanta and hs even performed at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. She had the wonderful opportunity to work along side of many established Broadway actors and directors while performing the roles of Scaramouche in “We Will Rock You”, Daisy in “Sideshow” and Mrs. Walker in “Tommy”. During her time at Broadway Dreams Honey was also cast in the new original musical "Merrilee Mannerly" as Princess Posy King.

Honey was just recently nominated for a Tampa Bay Theatre Award for ‘Best featured Actress in a Musical’. She received this nomination for playing the role of Martha in Spring Awakening down at Florida’s FreeFall Theatre along side Rachel Potter (Broadway – Adam’s Family) as Wendela. Next she will be venturing out to Los Angeles for the revival/recreation of the 1999 musical ‘Inappropriate’.

Even though Honey may be well established in Minnesota and the New York Tri-state area, she is known domestically and internationally for her singing on YouTube. Be sure to check out her channel at www.YouTube.com/HoneyRibar

BWW Reviews: ONE DAY: THE MUSICAL Brims with Teenage Angst, Pop-Rock Intensity

"One Day: The Musical" exudes an angry, pop-rock sensibility and has teenage angst in spades. Though the show takes the journal entries of real teenagers as its basis, it sometimes feels like a mouthpiece for adolescent issues rather than a show about living, breathing humans. In striving to be a universal stand-in for the struggles of growing up in the twenty-first century, "One Day" becomes a plot-less, occasionally meandering revue. On the musical theater continuum, I'd describe "One Day" as "Spring Awakening" meets "Rent" meets "Hair" meets "Next to Normal." The caveats here being that I personally am not a fan of the first show listed, and "One Day" does not function as effectively as the others. The show does, however, showcase an entertaining pop-rock flare. And when the ensemble launches into composer/lyricist/librettist Michael Sottile's soaring, heavily microphoned harmonies, "One Day"feels gloriously tuneful.
