Last night The York Theatre Company honored the musical theatre writing team of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt in a Fantastick gala concert and award ceremony directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. The 2017 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre was presented to the legendary team (The Fantasticks, I Do, I Do!, 110 in the Shade, Celebration) at the event held at the Asia Society on Park Ave in NYC and BroadwayWorld was there. The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, announced today the establishment of The Riki and Bob Larimer Fund, a major gift in the amount of $500,000 to be given over a 5-year period and to be put toward the development of new works for the York stage, and marketing initiatives.

The Folk Music Society of NY presents a Weekend of Song - concerts and workshops to inspire singing and playing for everyone. Friday and Saturday evening concerts and Saturday and Sunday daytime workshops feature a broad sweep of musical genres. This musical weekend takes place at Elizabeth Irwin High School in Greenwich Village. Participants may attend the weekend in whole or choose evening or daytime events according to their schedules. They won't want to miss anything.

This summer's New York International Fringe Festival will host the new futuristic rock musical BARCODE which features book, music, and lyrics by Debbie Andrews and Mike Blaxill of the New York indie quartet Gladshot, and Hair co-author James Rado as creative consultant. Joe Barros (director of the 2011 FringeNYC hit The Legend of Julie Taymor) directs and choreographs.

While the new musical by James Hindman (book) and Ellen Weiss (score) appears to be a promising work in progress, Transport Group's premiere production of Being Audrey, helmed by the company's Artistic Director Jack Cummings III, is loaded with bright, shiny charms that display their material in a dazzling little jewel box.

In keeping with the East Meets East Initiative, the Lower East Side Business Improvement District (LES BID) and Fourth Arts Block (FAB) partnered with Transport Group Theatre Company, winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, to promote local business during the company's world premiere production of the Off-Broadway musical, Being Audrey.

Transport Group's BEING AUDREY Opens 4/5

Transport Group, the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, has announced that celebrated journalist, novelist, and producer Dominick Dunne will provide voice-over narration for the world premiere musical, Being Audrey, which begins performances Friday, March 27, at 8pm at 220 East 4 Street, between Avenues A and B. The opening is set for Sunday, April 5, at 3pm.

The production has delayed its first preview originally planned for tonight, Friday 27th, the show will now begin on Saturday, March 28th to allow the company an extra amount of rehearsal time, stated a Transport Group spokesperson.

In Being Audrey, Claire Stark is the New York woman who has it all: a fabulous life, the husband of her dreams, and a view of Tiffany's from her Fifth Avenue apartment. When calamity strikes and her fairytale world threatens to collapse, Claire seeks refuge in her imagination, where she embarks on a hilarious, romantic adventure inspired by the films of her heroine, Audrey Hepburn. As Hepburn's characters in the classic films Roman Holiday, Funny Face, Love in the Afternoon, Sabrina, and Breakfast at Tiffany's, Claire's fantastical escape appears complete until she must confront the reality of what she stands to lose. Being Audrey celebrates the variety of life and the themes embodied by one of America's most beloved and enduring movie stars.
