Catastrophic Theatre Presents World Premiere of Experimental Adaptation of SNOW WHITE

Snow White is tired of being "just a horsewife" to Bill, Dan, Edward, Hubert, Henry, Clem and Kevin, who, in her estimation, "only add up to the equivalent of about two real men." While the seven men toil in commercial real estate and manufacture exotic high-end baby foods, she whiles away her days reading Mao Tse-tung, drinking vodka with orange juice, and impatiently waiting for the prince promised to her by history.

BWW Review: THE JOHNS provokes white men at Mildred's Umbrella

It's a scary cautionary tale illuminating where we are today in regards to sex workers and the dangers they face being in the crosshairs of those with little regard for them.

BWW Reviews: Theater LaB Houston & Obsidian Art Space's COCK is Fascinating and Poignant

With a suggestive title and a fascinating premise, Mike Bartlett's COCK is making a stir in Houston. Produced by Theater LaB Houston at Obsidian Art Space, the 90-minute one-act play that took London by storm in 2009 and received glowing reviews in New York City in 2012, lives up to its in-town and out-of-town hype. Be warned though, this show is for adults only, and patrons under the age of 18 will not be admitted.

BWW Reviews: Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company's ROME is Unsettling, Interesting Theatre

If you have ever wondered what theatre by Chuck Palahniuk may be like, then ROME is definitely for you. If you're looking for interesting theatre that will give you plenty to mull over, then ROME is also for you. If you are looking for theatre that will discomfort you to the core of your being while making you laugh at things that you generally wouldn't laugh at, then ROME is for you too. All in all, the experimental ROME was a risk well worth taking.

BWW Reviews: Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company's FOXFINDER Brims With Insight and Intrigue

For me, the appeal of avant-garde pieces of theatre is never knowing exactly what you're in for when the houselights dim and the show begins. For Houston audiences, Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company specializes in these kinds of productions, and their current presentation of Dawn King's FOXFINDER is no different. The play is set in a somewhat dystopian England. Heavy rains, floods, and illness have plagued the Covey farm for about six months and caused them to fall behind their government mandated production schedule. William Bloor, a foxfinder, is sent to the farm to investigate if Judith and Samuel Covey are suffering from contamination. What transpires during William Bloor's visit to the Covey farm invites audiences to explore the power of propaganda and belief as the characters' lives are permanently altered. The absorbing drama was the winner of the 2011 Papatango writing competition and earned Dawn King the Most Promising Playwright award at the 2012 Off West End Awards.

BWW Reviews: LOVE GOES TO PRESS is Fun, Witty, & Intelligent

Main Street Theater is offering Houstonians an unparalleled delight with their production of Martha Gellhorn and Virginia Cowles' play LOVE GOES TO PRESS. The play found success in London in 1946 and then moved across the pond to New York in 1947. It opened January 1 and closed on January 4. The play was not touched again in the United States until earlier in 2012 when the Mint Theater revived it. With a strong and talented cast and crew, Main Street Theater is presenting the Regional Premiere of the mad cap, romantic, and charmingly feminist comedy, running now through December 23, 2012.
