Polarity Ensemble Theatre Closes Its Doors

Polarity Ensemble Theatre has closed its doors for good. The company, incorporated in 2004, was known for developing and producing new work by local playwrights and for innovative productions of classics. Polarity mounted 22 full length productions, 10 of which were world premiere scripts developed in the company's DIONYSOS CUP FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS series. The company also published five books, some of which will remain in print.

Polarity Ensemble Theatre Opens 2014-15 Season With MIRACLES IN THE FALL

For its eleventh season Polarity Ensemble Theatre offers a unique blend of new work by Chicago area authors on both the page and the stage. Polarity Ensemble Theatre Books will release two new novels this season while the Ensemble produces two world premiere plays and its annual DIONYSOS CUP FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS. The two novels will be linked with the second play of the season and presented as the AFTERLIFE TRILOGY. All performances will be presented at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614.

Kristiana Rae Colón Wins 2014 Dionysos Cup

Polarity Ensemble Theatre will award the 2014 Dionysos Cup to Chicago playwright Kristiana Rae Colon for her new play OCTAGON, which is set in the world of slam poetry competitions. The play was selected as one of four finalist plays to be developed in Polarity's annual Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays. Over seventy plays by Chicago-area playwrights were submitted to the festival. Finalist plays were selected by committee and the winning play voted upon by audience members and Polarity staff. OCTAGON was also recently awarded the Arizona Latino Playwrights Award that carries a prize of $1000.

Polarity Ensemble Theatre Set for Residency at Greenhouse Theater Center

Polarity Ensemble Theatre announces its new residency at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60614. Polarity will kick off its residency with the Polarity Greenhouse for Growth Fundraiser Saturday, November 16, 2013, followed by an innovative production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, adapted and directed by Polarity's Artistic Director Richard Engling, January 30 through March 2, 2013. Press night is Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for both events are currently on sale.

Bohemian Theatre Ensemble and The Hypocrites Top List of Jeff Nominations

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 120 nominations in 25 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2012, and March 31, 2013. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 146 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 54 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty-three theatre companies received nominations.

Bell St. in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, tonight, February 26 through April 7, 2013. Press night is Thursday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m.

Today, the Jefferson Awards announced the 150 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008. Beginning with this season, the Jeff Awards is acknowledging the work of Large and Midsize theatres in separate categories for productions and technical elements.
