Fats Waller is one of the many black artists over the centuries whose music still permeates popular culture. His stylistic rhythms are part the foundation of the quintessential American sound and it is due to this that his musical revue AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ is a tremendous work of art. TUTS season opening production not only does his music incredibly justice but also provides a night of theater that one simply will never forget. 

Broadway Black, the multimedia organization highlighting the achievements of Black theatre artists presented the inaugural Antonyo Awards, a celebration of the Black Broadway and Off-Broadway community. Check out highlights from the event!

Crossroads Theatre Company has had a marvelous start to their 2019/2020 Season. After a successful staging of 'Paul Robeson' in September, the Company recently had an event that will be treasured by supporters, friends and patrons for a very long time. 'A Night With Crossroads-Honoring Denzel Washington' was held on October 19.

DocFest / New York DocFest (docfestjazz.org) will have its inaugural New York Benefit Concert (matinee), hosted by The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Featured performers include world renown drummer/composer Eric Harland with Aaron Parks, piano; Matt Brewer, bass; Walter Smith III, tenor sax and Mike Moreno, guitar.

Members of the touring company of HAMILTON and First Avenue are pleased to present We, The Revolution featuring HAMILTON Company Members: A Rock Revue, with special guest Ashley Tamar Davis. The performance on Monday, September 24 at First Avenue benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

On the occasion of what would have been her 75th birthday, A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN opened a two-night engagement at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre, sharing with Boston the spirit of Janis and the blues vocalists who inspired her. Newton native Kelly McIntyre evokes Joplin with her body language, a rapid verbal patter, and a powerhouse voice that can go from zero to sixty. The show is at its best when focusing on the musical numbers, a generous offering from the singer's canon of hits.

The Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical A Night With Janis Joplin makes its Madison debut at Overture Center Sun., Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. with Kelly McIntyre as Joplin.
