Casting Announced For Theatre 29's A BAD YEAR FOR TOMATOES

Theatre 29 has completed casting for the first show of the 2019 "Best Of" season, the hilarious comedy, "Bad Year for Tomatoes", first produced there in 2009. The season will feature favorite shows from the past 19 years as Theatre 29 launches its 20th year. "A Bad Year for Tomatoes" marks the main stage directing Debut for veteran actress and singer Char Childs, a familiar talent to Theatre 29 audiences having been involved in 21 shows there since 2002.

Fed up with the pressures and demands of her acting career, the famous Myra Marlowe leases a house in the tiny New England hamlet of Beaver Haven and settles down to write her autobiography. She is successful in turning aside the offers pressed on her by her long-time agent, but dealing with her nosy, omnipresent neighbors is a different matter. To shoo them away, and gain some privacy, Myra invents a mad, homicidal sister - who is kept locked in an upstairs room, but occasionally escapes long enough to scare off uninvited visitors.

The ruse works well, at first, but complications result when the local handyman, Piney, develops an affection for "Sister Sadie" (really Myra in a fright wig) and some of the more officious ladies decide it is their Christian duty to save Sadie's soul. In desperation Myra announces that her imaginary sibling has suddenly gone off to Boston-which brings on the sheriff and the suspicion of murder. All is straightened out in the end, but the uproarious doings will keep audiences laughing right up to the final curtain, and then some.

The pivotal character, Myra Marlowe, is played by Janet Peercy. Joining Peercy on stage are two nosy neighbors, Cora Gump and Reba Harper, played by Courtney Cooper and Brandy Hazel; Hope Spicer as Willa Mae Wilcox, a kind of new-age hippie witch; Earl Childs typecast as Piney, the local woodcutter, manure salesman, and hog killer; Kevin Myers as Myra's agent Tom Lamont and Morgan Pennington as the Sheriff.

The technical staff consists of Assistant Director Butch Pelfrey, who directed the original production, Stage Manager Doug Peercy, Assistant Stage Manager Cole Subriar, Technical Directors Nena Jimenez and Brianna Jillson, lighting tech Grace Rodriguez, Sound Tech Scott Clinkscales, and Stagehand Kylie Robinson.

"A Bad Year for Tomatoes" runs weekends from January 11, 2019 through January 27, 2019, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 pm. Matinee performances will be held at 2:30 pm on Sundays.
