He was born on a Thursday.
Vegetable soup day.
Suzanne Lebeau offers a different take on Hansel and Gretel. Oh, the parents, the forest, the dark night, the gingerbread house, and the wicked witch are still there, but somehow the story isn’t quite the same. As seen through the eyes of Gretel, stuck with a little brother she’d just as soon leave behind, it’s a whole new walk in the woods.
With typical compassion and insight, the playwright—internationally acknowledged as a leader in theatre for young audiences—investigates the bond between sister and brother, older and younger. Deftly capturing the interplay of strong and sometimes contradictory feelings like love and jealousy, she weaves a story about sibling relationships that appeals to children and their adults alike.
Together with director Gervais Gaudreault, Suzanne remains true to her mission: to create engaging, imaginative theatre for children.
