The term “fairy” either conjures up a vision of a well-loved, winged, Tinkerbell-like, character or an unspoken derogatory term for a man from the gay community.  There is no middle ground.  It is black or white.  But in the 1980's times were different. Perhaps some people even took ownership of the title.  This was a time when the words “gay” and “father” were never used together, and a time when no one yet knew if that might, someday, become possible.

The Gladstone’s 2023-2024 season opened last night with WOW Factory’s presentation of Wide Awake Hearts, directed by Peter James Haworth. Penned by Canadian playwright, Brendan Gall, the show’s tag line states that it is “[a] nightmare. About a Film. About Love.” This sums it up quite accurately.

Earlier this week, Debora Bloom Hall of the Ontario Trillium Foundation's Simcoe-York Grant Review Team kicked-off the opening performance of The African Resistance Soundtrack, featuring Quammie Williams and Tiki Mercury Clarke with an announcement of a $62,400 Resilient Communities Fund grant awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
