The following esteemed Black Female Politicians, who have been and continue to be trail blazers will be honoured for their contributions to the political and social justice platforms in Canada.

Hon. Jean Augustine, Hon. Margarett Best, Hon. Zanana Akande, Hon. Mary Anne Chambers, Hon. Mitzie Hunter and Hon. Celina Caesar-Chavanness are the 2017 "Women of Purpose Award" recipients. Their work continues to have monumental impact on the lives of so many; promoting social and cultural inclusion in our community. Collectively their statement of resilience and high achievement in a male dominated fields, have paved the way for women of all ages and backgrounds, to not only dream big but make their dreams a reality.

This event is made possible through the partnership of Thora's Elegant Design and The Art of Catering. Our mission as we celebrate these remarkable women is to continue to impact the lives of women, open doors of opportunity and promote access to education and training. Our goals are as follows:

Donate proceeds to The Hon. Jean Augustine Chair in Faculty of Education, York University

Increase funding for programs and training, and enhance the quality of living for females at the St. Ann's Bay Infirmary, Jamaica

Increase female representation in political arenas by creating interest in the study of Governance, Political Science and Policy at the Post Secondary level

The Event

Located in Caledon, Ontario the picturesque Royal Ambassador Event Venue creates a lovely backdrop for afternoon garden cocktails beginning at 2:30pm, with the main ceremony being held in the great hall at 3:00pm. Our MC for the afternoon will be Patricia Jaggernauth, Toronto's favorite TV personality. She brings flare and passion for elevating women to their potential. Every detail has been carefully planned - from the elegant table settings and star studded décor by Thora's Elegant Design, to the mouth watering signature menu created by Celebrity Chef, Selwyn Richards, The Art of Catering.

In an era where media is the most persuasive conduit for influencing cultural norms, the collective message that our young women receive is that their worth rests in their youth, beauty, and sexuality -- and not in their capacity as a leader. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made it a priority for his mandate to address this misnomer by creating a cabinet represented by 50% women (The Globe and Mail, November 4th, 2015), championing equal representation in Parliament. This is a step in the right direction, which will facilitate gender parity in leadership. Honourable Trudeau's move is a testament to the contributions of these 6 amazing women, who have made politics their business.
