Photo Flash: First Look At A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 At Maltz Jupiter Theatre

When Henrik Ibsen's Nora slammed the door shut on her marriage in A Doll's House, it was said to be the slam heard around the world.

But did you ever wonder what happened to Nora after she left? Now you can find out in the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's production of the biting and clever comedy A Doll's House, Part 2 (February 24 - March 10).

Fifteen years since closing the door and 139 years since Ibsen penned the story, Nora returns to her beloved husband and children 15 years later and wonders what she will find when she opens the door. Fresh from its recent Broadway run, American playwright Lucas Hnath explores her untold story in this newly-imagined comedy.

The Theatre is planning a pre-show presentation before every performance to catch audiences up on the original A Doll's House and the history of the play and its context in society. Forty-five minutes prior to each performance, audiences may enjoy a brief presentation in the Theatre that will include an overview of the characters, story and history of Ibsen's classic.

Nominated for eight Tony Awards®, A Doll's House, Part 2 premiered on Broadway in April 2017. By exploring the rules of society and gender through the context of one of literature's most famous characters, the play earned rave reviews from critics across the country and high praise for its creativity and humor.

The Chicago Tribune wrote that the comedy is "fascinating and frequently very funny," while The Hollywood Reporter raved that it is "an ingenious elaboration and deconstruction of A Doll's House [that] stands perfectly well on its own." The Guardian dubbed it a "sophisticated sequel that offers vibrancy and wit," while The New York Times called it "smart, funny and utterly engrossing." Forbes has dubbed Hnath "one of the most daring, thoughtful and original playwrights working today."

Directed by multiple Carbonell Award-winning South Florida director J. Barry Lewis (whose recent work at the Theatre includes An Inspector Calls, Disgraced, Frost/Nixon, Glengarry Glen Ross, Dial M for Murder and Doubt: A Parable), the play will feature a cast of four acclaimed actors, including Carol Halstead as Nora (whose on and off-Broadway and regional experience includes the critically-acclaimed production of Buried Child at State Theatre New Jersey), Paul Carlin as Torvald (whose work includes Long Day's Journey into Night with Frances Sternhagen at Irish Repertory Theatre and Temporal Powers at Mint Theatre Company), Mikayla Bartholomew as Emmy (whose recent credits include the world premiere of LORDES, Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evers and The Cherry Orchard) and Mary Stout as Anne Marie (whose extensive work includes Jane Eyre and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and who local audiences will remember from her Carbonell-nominated performance as Duchess Maria in the Theatre's production of Me and My Girl).

"While A Doll's House was written nearly 140 years ago, it has a contemporary flair that speaks to today's audiences. It is at its heart a very modern story that deals with selfishness, selflessness, growth and compromise," Lewis said. "A Doll's House, Part II is not a sequel to the original work, but more of a thought experiment of 'what if.' It presents a very sophisticated argument about what we owe to ourselves and to each other."

The production will showcase the artistry of a host of talented designers, including scenic designer Anne Mundell (Born Yesterday, Disgraced, The Audience, Frost/Nixon, Glengarry Glen Ross and Other Desert Cities), lighting designer Kirk Bookman (An Inspector Calls, Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Glengarry Glen Ross), costume designer Tracy Dorman (An Inspector Calls, Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, Agatha Christie: The Mousetrap), wig designer Gerard Kelly (who has designed for Hair on Broadway and on London's West End) and Carbonell Award-winning resident sound designer Marty Mets.
