Out of the Apple Orchard to Host Concert Reading, 3/6
A concert reading of Out of the Apple Orchard by award-winning playwright Ellen W. Kaplan, based on the book by award-winning local author Yvonne David, will take place on March 6, 2016 from 3pm-6pm at The Lowndes Shakespeare Center. In Out of the Apple Orchard, Yvonne David tells a story of a struggling Jewish family in the Catskills of New York. Inspired by the novella, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Out of the Apple Orchard contains similar themes, such as hunger, forgiveness, and a new beginning.
The upcoming concert reading will also feature a silent auction and raffles to benefit Jewish Family Services. Though her partnering with Jewish Family Services, Yvonne David highlights the dire situation of the hungry, just as Charles Dickens brought attention to the plight of the poor in his day. Today 1 in 7 Americans, or 48.1 million people, do not have enough to eat.
Other highlights of the event include an afternoon tea provided by Arthur's Creative Events & Catering to include hors d'oeuvres, desserts, tea and coffee. Ticket prices range from $36 for adults, $18 for seniors (65+) and students, and $10 for children (12 and under). For tickets, visit http://appletreeseries.com/ or call 407-437-4909.
The premiere of the Out of the Apple Orchard play and gala will take place in September 2016. More details to follow.
