The Winter Park Playhouse proudly announces that in preparing for the 3rd annual Florida Festival of New Musicals, its submission process attracted 32 new musical works, doubling the amount of new musical submissions from last year.

Considering that The Playhouse is preparing for only year three of its annual Florida Festival of New Musicals, scheduled for June 20-23, 2019, doubling the amount of submissions and drawing from a wide range of writers both nationally and internationally, is quite remarkable. This confirms the growing solid reputation of this Festival and the desire for a showcase of this caliber in the nation's southeast sector.

As a professional, year-round musical theatre largely focused on producing lesser-known and new musicals, The Winter Park Playhouse believes wholeheartedly in the importance of fostering the development of new works. Thus, The Playhouse created and launched the Florida Festival of New Musicals in 2017.

The purpose of the Festival is to advance and elevate the original American art form of Musical Theatre by fostering the development of new musicals and the artistic growth of writers and composers. The festival is led by Playhouse Artistic Director Roy Alan. It is the only one of its kind in the region, similar to musical theatre festivals featuring new works that take place in New York City, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. It provides a unique insight into how a new musical comes to life.

This 4-day Festival showcases the selected new musical works and brings together writers and composers with patrons, press, producers and directors. The event features a one-hour version of each musical that is rehearsed and performed three times in a non-staged format that is fully read and sung, by casts of professional actors, singers and musicians. Along with members of the artistic community, the general public will be able to attend and experience the new works during the Festival.

Writers from around the globe comment on The Festival saying:

"It was our privilege to participate and Victor and I will remain eternally grateful for the opportunity." Kevin Purcell and Victor Kazan, Stranger From Seville, Melbourne, Australia

"The entire experience from beginning to end could not have been more perfect... I know I speak for all of the writers, composers and lyricists of all 6 shows when I say that we are greatly indebted to you and The Playhouse." Paul Gilger, Gigolo, Santa Rosa, California

"So grateful for the opportunity to associate with all of these remarkable creators, performers, producers and supporters. It was a magical experience!" Ross D. Martin, Miss Isabella Rainsong & Her Traveling Companion, Fulton, Maryland

"It was a privilege to be part of the FIRST Florida Festival of New Musicals. Very impressive... To be a part of it... Thank you is so inadequate..." Jeff Lodin, William Squier and Bill Nabel, Love On Ice, New York, New York

The submission deadline for the 3rd annual Florida Festival of New Musicals has passed and the selection committee will continue the scrutinizing process to select the final 6 new musical works to be professional read and sung at the 2019 Festival.

Don't miss the rare opportunity to see new musical work come to life! Tickets will go on sale April 2, 2019 for the 3rd annual Florida Festival of New Musicals which takes place at The Winter Park Playhouse June 20 - 23, 2019.

The Winter Park Playhouse is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and a professional theatre proudly affiliated with Actors' Equity Association and The National Alliance for Musical Theatre.
