Burt Reynolds Institute Announces New Fall/Winter Schedule

By:

The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre (BRIFT) recently announced its fall/winter schedule, which includes a new and exciting Writing the Feature Screenplay class for beginning writers on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The class was added due to the popularity of the Advanced Screenwriting class, which is held on Thursday evenings, also at 6:30 p.m. These conception to completion courses allow students to workshop their scripts by having them performed staged reading style by other students. Taught by Shawn Fornari, M.F.A., each two and a half hour class is $20.00.

Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. also offers the opportunity for acting and business professionals to learn the art of using a teleprompter. Teleprompter Proficiency (six week course/$120.00) is one of the most requested skills by casting directors in South Florida. For the corporate executive, knowing how to use a teleprompter can enhance presentation skills and speed the climb up the ladder of success. The course is helmed by Patty Serrano, owner of Little Panther Prompter, who has more than twenty years experience in film and television.

For those interested in the Art of Improvisation, the Institute offers a class for beginning and intermediate students on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. A Saturday morning class for children 10 - 17 years of age, Improv for Young Actors, is also available. The children’s class meets from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Instructed by Todd Vittum, improvisation teaches the ability to think on your feet so that you always stay a step ahead. A real confidence booster! Adult improv costs $20.00 per week. Youth improve is $10.00 per week.

Thursday evenings, The BRIFT performing improv troupe, The Trolls, rehearses from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Directed by Todd Vittum, this “by audition only” group is geared for those actors with advanced skills in improvisation, who enjoy performing before sold out audiences.

A new and exciting class has been added on Saturday afternoons for young performers who wish to learn the art of acting for film and stage. Scene Study for Young Actors meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is taught by Todd Vittum. The cost is $10.00 per week. Open to students aged 10 – 17.

The ever popular Fundamentals of Acting (FOA) meets twice on Sunday afternoons – 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. FOA allows novice and intermediate performers to learn and perfect the finer points of acting for film and theater. Taught by Sherman Roberts, the class is ongoing and costs $20.00 per week.

The Burt Reynolds Institute is located at 304 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida. Prior registration is required for all classes as some have limited enrollment. For information and registration, please contact Donna Carbone at 561 743-9955.
