Bay Street Players Present THE FOREIGNER, Closes 10/10

By:

Bay Street Players will present THE FOREIGNER, a comedy by Larry Shue, September 17 - October 10.  This hilarious and enormously popular comedy revolves around Charlie and Froggy who are guests in a hunting lodge in rural Georgia. Charlie is terribly shy so Froggy claims that Charlie is a foreigner who doesn't understand English. Soon, Charlie finds himself privy to secrets and scandals freely discussed in front of him by the other visitors. This fuels the non-stop laughter of this award-winning play, and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys" and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

Performances will be at 8 pm on September 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, October 1, 2, 7, 8 & 9 and
2 pm September 19, 26, October 3, 9, 10.

Tickets are $20, $17 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bay Street Players at the Historic State Theatre is located at 109 N. Bay Street, Eustis, Fl 32726.

The seeds for the Bay Street Players were planted when Dale Carpenter, Deborah Carpenter, Lou Tally, and Charlene Smith left the Ice House Theatre in 1974. Together they decided to start their own theatre. Lou Tally was driving in downtown Eustis and spotted the old State Theatre on Bay Street.

The State Theatre originally opened in 1922 as a vaudeville house. The building was also used as a movie theatre for many years. By 1975, it had been vacant for many years. Because of its original purpose, the theatre contained a curved balcony-mezzanine, a fly-loft, an orchestra pit, and wonderful visibility and acoustics. The group leased the 50-year old theatre with sweat equity (by renovating, repairing, and renovating the building, and paying only $60 per month in rent).
