It may not be snowing in Florida, but the holiday season has arrived. With the theme parks already decorated and holiday shopping in full swing, it is important to take a moment to enjoy the good times. Orlando Rep is the first of many local theaters beginning their holiday programs debuting RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER this past weekend.

The 1964 holiday classic film comes to life as Rudolph and his misfit friends try to find a place where they can live happily. From birth Rudolph has always been different. His bright red nose glows at inopportune times. Of course as Rudolph grows up his nose precludes him from playing any reindeer games. He befriends a beautiful Doe named Clarice, but runs away after being kicked out of the reindeer games. He meets an elf that wants to be a dentist and a crazy human who is searching for treasure. In the frozen setting, they run away the giant scary bumble and the group makes it to the legendary Land of Misfit Toys.

Filled with time-honored songs like "A Holly Jolly Christmas," "Jingle Jingle Jingle," and of course, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," it is a cross-generational family production for the holiday season. The set is an icy wonderland and real falling snow to set the scene. This is a relatively short show with an intermission, which is a nice break for families traveling with young ones. Come early to take advantage of the Reps show-themed crafts, then stay late to take photos and meet the cast.

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER runs at Orlando Rep until December 29th. Don't forget! The Rep's Holiday Family Gala will take place on December 8th at 4pm. There will be dancing, meet-and-greets with the cast of RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, holiday treats, raffles, and of course, photo opportunities with Santa. The proceeds will benefit Orlando Repertory Theatre. For tickets and more information about both visit www.orlandorep.com.
