The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "Spring Awakening," at 7:30 p.m. April 25. The one-night-only performance announced today will be the Nebraska premiere of the show, as well as one of the final performances of the last-ever professional tour of "Spring Awakening."

Tickets will go on sale to the general public Jan. 31.

"Spring Awakening" is a musical, based on a play of the same name written in 1891 by Frank Wedekind. It is a coming-of-age story about teenagers that takes place in a provincial German town in the late 19th-century, and shows the consequences of living in a repressive society. Steven Sater, who wrote the book and lyrics, has said that his impulse in writing the show was "a desire to move hearts and try and change the world a little."

This musical is recommended for audience members ages 15 and older, because it has mature content, including adult language, mature themes and sexual situations.

"Spring Awakening" was the winner of eight Tony Awards in 2007, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book of a Musical. The music was composed by Grammy and Tony award-winning singer, songwriter and composer Duncan Sheik.

Tickets are available beginning Jan. 31 online at www.liedcenter.org, by telephone at (402) 472-4747 or in person at the Lied Center box office, 301 N. 12th St. Tickets start at $40 for adults and $20 for students. Discounts are available for groups of 20 people or more by calling Cheri Beery at (402) 472-4725.

The Lied Center for Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art performing arts facility.
