Omaha Community Playhouse to openFiddler on the Roof Friday, May 28, 2010. A timeless classic of the musical theatre, Fiddler on the Roof centers on events in an impoverished Jewish village in Czarist Russia at the beginning of the 20 th century.
Tevye is the proud father of five daughters who wish to marry men they love instead of the promised unions he has arranged with Yente and the Matchmaker. Tevye, a poor milkman with the dreams of a rich philosopher, is torn by his feelings of tradition. He holds many conversations with God, trying to sort things out. He is challenged by his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions in the face of great social upheaval all around him.
The play includes such well-known musical numbers as "Tradition," "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were A Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."
