Performance in HD. Part of National Theatre Live. In the kitchen of an enormous 1950s London restaurant, the orders are piling up. A motley group of chefs, waitresses, and porters, thrown together from all walks of life, argue and flirt as they race to keep pace. Then there’s Peter, a high-spirited young cook who sparks up an affair with waitress Monique while dreaming of a better life. Darkly funny, Arnold Wesker’s extraordinary play captures the all-consuming clamour of the kitchen, examining life lived at breakneck speed when work threatens to define who we are.
