A New Swan Lake Pits Man vs Nature American Liberty Ballet, a company based in NY and NJ, adds a fresh twist to a beloved classic with The Dying of Swan Lake*, coming to Manhattan this March. ALB reframes the iconic Swan story as a confrontation between Siegfried and mankind’s failure to protect the environment. With choreography by Artistic Director Valerie Mae Browne and veteran ALB principal Alan McCormick, whose work has been showcased in Dancing With the Stars and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the ballet explores what can happen if humans fail to take action when Mother Nature is on the verge of destruction. Oil-slicked swans and a dark magician representing AI must battle it out while Siegfried finds himself poised to change the course of history. Two acts with one intermission. As a prelude to Swan, ALB will present A Dance Under the Sun, a mood piece on soaking up the beauty of the natural world, set to Ravel’s Bolero. Choreography by Valerie Mae Browne is enhanced by vivid interpretation from visual artist Anna Khachatryan, who is a native of Armenia. Her film and photography work has been exhibited at multiple venues there and in the US, including Art Basel Miami and the La Jolla International Film Festival. Her art has a reputation for shocking and bedazzling her viewers—be prepared! Theater at St Jean’s, 150 East 76 th St, corner Lexington Ave
