American Liberty Ballet brings to life the timeless tale of Cupid and Psyche, the god and mortal destined for love but star-crossed at every turn. With dazzling choreography by Valerie Mae Browne and a sweeping romantic score from contemporary composer Joseph Jones, this ballet is packed with all the passion and drama of two young lovers who dare defy the gods. Will envious Venus destroy the lovely Psyche, whose beauty outshines all others? Will Cupid manage to outwit his cunning mother? And will the powerful gods intervene to help or to hinder? See Cupid and Psyche forge headfirst through every obstacle, proving to all the insurmountable power of love. Mr. Jones studied composition with Nicholas Maw at the Peabody Conservatory of Music and with Dr. Samuel Adler at the Bowdoin International Summer Music Festival. His catalog includes over 170 works in multiple genres. This is his first ballet. Valerie Mae Browne is the founder and Artistic Director of American Liberty Ballet, a company created in 2011. This is her 9th full length original ballet on the company, alongside several restagings of classical ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Don Quixote.
