Yeshiva University Students Challenge Assumptions In Their Spring Production Of DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL

DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL, the uproarious and thought-provoking comedy, will be performed by the men of Yeshiva University at the Schottenstein Theater in Washington Heights.

This show was selected by YCDS for their spring production because of its sharp comedy and profound, timeless messages. DUCK HUNTER enchants audiences and delivers a fast paced, witty dialogue, a fresh commentary on issues such as racism, "fake news," love, and belief, and emphasizes the importance of challenging previously held assumptions.

This production conveys a message quite familiar to the Jewish community. In Ethics of Our Fathers it is written, "Who is wise? He who learns from all men." Throughout the course of the show, characters emerge holding assumptions rooted in their pasts. When coming face to face with their perceived opposites, they soon learn that people can surprise you. This universal message rings true and is of utmost relevance to the world today. Committed to the Arts and Judaism, YCDS seeks to convey such messages by providing the students of Yeshiva University with the ability to dive into the world of theatre without sacrificing their Jewish identity.

Synopsis: DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL is the uproarious story of two bumbling Alabama brothers who have never shot a duck but think they shot an angel. As they lament their fates in a murky swamp, they are chased by a cynical tabloid journalist and his reluctant photographer, who don't believe any of it-until they discover evidence that makes them think otherwise. The play hysterically interweaves a love story, sibling rivalry, tawdry media, race relations and cultural stereotypes as the chase to find the angel builds to a crescendo in the swamp. Ultimately a sweet allegory about redemption, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel has been hailed by audiences as a rare comedy with a surprisingly heartfelt lesson.
