Jeff Britton, with Candela Entertainment, Curb Gardner and Cynthia Newport will begin previews of a new play with music, WELCOME HOME MARIAN ANDERSON, inspired by the life and legacy of the Philadelphia singer, on May 13, 2008 at St. Lukes Theatre, 308 West 46th St. The official opening will be on Friday, May 16, 2008. Jeffrey Thompson Directs.

Vanessa Shaw as playwright and performer, explores the real flesh and blood woman behind the icon, telling the story of a reluctant American Heroine whose voice was her weapon against racism of the time. View the life of Marian Anderson from her youth to her historic concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial  in April 1939.

In addition to Vanessa Shaw, the cast also features Mark E. Lang and Ivan Thomas.

Set and Costume Design is by Lee Bennett, Lighting Design is by Paul Miller.

Performances are Tuesday – Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
