TinyRhino is UglyRhino's take on the ten-minute play evening. Each month we commission six short plays each including the same five dramatic elements. On the night of the performance, these elements are revealed to the audience as cues to drink.

October’s installment of TinyRhino will feature spooky tales by Stephen Cedars (Counselor, published by Original Works Publishing), Jeremy Kamps (Hudson Valley Writers’ Center New Play Reading Series), Dano Madden (Leaving IKEA at The Brooklyn Lyceum), Lee August Praley (The Last Ninety Minutes in the Life of Nikola Tesla), Nicole Rosner (Centralia), and Douglas Sharf (Happy Endings at NYMF). The plays will be directed by Dylan Kammerer (Dammit Office Girl at The Kraine), Rebecca LeVine (Assistant Director, The Awakening), Bryce Norbitz (Co-Writer, Triassic Parq), Michael Perlman (Assistant Director, Suicide Inc. with Roundabout), Greg Redlawsk (Assistant Director, GLAMDROMEDA), and Kara Riopelle (Assistant Director, Feng Yi Ting at Lincoln Center Festival).

The dramatic elements this month will include: someone answers a phone call and no one is there, someone references a famous scary movie, someone eats candy, a chainsaw sound effect, and someone says “Boo!”

This month’s installment of TinyRhino will be on Monday, October 15 at 8pm at the Brooklyn Lyceum (227 4th Avenue at Union Street, Brooklyn). Tickets are $10 at the door, which includes 1 free beer. Each TinyRhino features live jazz music, drink specials, special drink giveaways, and a cocktail hour following the performance.

TINYRHINO originally premiered in July 2011, and has returned to packed audiences and sold-out crowds since November. This monthly event showcases and supports the work of up-and-coming playwrights, directors, and actors by presenting brand new work each month. TinyRhino has featured young theater artists from The Flea's Bats, Samuel French OOB Festival winners, The Public Theater's Emerging Writers Group and Drama League Directing fellows, just to name a few.

UGLYRHINO is a new way to experience theater. Expanding on our high quality productions, we integrate dynamic arts programming ranging from emerging musicians to warehouse parties. UglyRhino curates affordable evenings with a social atmosphere that capture the inimitable spirit of Brooklyn.

THE BROOKLYN LYCEUM is a producing arts venue and cultural center on The Edge of Gowanus. Originally opened in 1910 as an indoor bathing facility, it now plays host to a range of theater, music, dance, markets and community activities. The Lyceum programs small and large artistic works, working with both local and travelling professional groups, and has an array of activities throughout the year, including our large markets and conventions, zumba classes, a drop down batting cage and weekly jazz.
