Turn to Flesh Productions (TTF) announced on Valentine's Day 2016 the three playwrights selected for their third annual Reading Series: Birds of a Feather by June Guralnick, Dear Little Butterface by Duncan Pflaster (in rhyming couplets), and The Near Far by Leland Frankel.

Under the umbrella "Farcical & Feminine", TTF is pleased to present three new female-centric comedies in heightened language. Each play will receive extensive development with resident dramaturg and Literary Manager, Laura Pittenger, followed by nine hours of rehearsal and a public staged reading between June and August 2016 in New York City.

"We believe that this series will demonstrate that female-driven comedies are badly-needed and undervalued in the American theater landscape," Pittenger said. "We strongly believe that stories about dynamic, powerful, and yes - hilarious - women exist outside of any other considerations about the authors who give life to their stories."

"Women are so often asked to be merely the arm candy, the ingénue, the ones who laugh rather than the ones who make you laugh," Artistic Director, Emily C. A. Snyder agreed. "We're thrilled to be searching for twelve funny women, of every imaginable age, size, and ethnicity this upcoming year - and we won't mind finding a few good men, too!"

Now in its third year, TTF has had the pleasure of ushering in Jenny Lyn Bader's In Flight, a new screwball comedy in rhyming couplets, which received a place in TTF's inaugural Reading Series (2014), and a national premiere from TTF at The Workshop Theatre in New York City in 2015. Since its inception, TTF has been pleased to become the premiere company for new plays in verse-including the 2014 production of Snyder's Cupid and Psyche ~ A New Play in Blank Verse, and co-sponsoring the extension of James Parenti's verse play, May Violets Spring: A New Story for a New Ophelia.

Continuing that tradition, each of the 2016 readings are in heightened language, with Pflaster taking on Molière's witty and wicked signature style.

The exact dates of the staged readings will be announced shortly. TURN TO FLESH PRODUCTIONS (TTF) is a New York-based theatre company dedicated to bringing new works dealing with modern themes written in classical styles to the stage, in order to examine the issues facing our world today through the lens of what has come before. In today's cultural climate, where parties have entrenched themselves against each other, TTF proposes wading into "no man's land" in order to encourage dialogue between warring factions. Our hope - founded on 15+ years of experience - is to foster intellectually honest debate about issues, while encouraging heartfelt reconciliation between persons. With an especial interest in creating dynamic roles for women both on-stage and off, Turn to Flesh is proud to be a female-run and female-friendly company. TTF is run by Executive Director, Sam Turlington, Artistic Director and Co-Founder, Emily C. A. Snyder, and Literary Manager, Laura Pittenger.
