The New American Theatre Company NY to Present ENDANGERED SPECIES, 5/9-10

By:

The New American Theatre Company NY (The NATCNY) will present an immersive staged reading of Nilan Johnson's Endangered Species on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10. This staging of Johnson's provacative new play will take the actors from behind the music stand and the audience from their seats. Both shows are followed by a talkback, to which the audience is invited to bring a dessert to share.

Endangered Species is a full-length play about the Williams family, the last Black family left in America. To survive, they have abandoned their blackness. During the Month of Others, Little Emma, the baby of the family, experiences "the calling." Her dormant blackness has awakened and is trying to claim her as a Black woman. The calling leads her to the basement (a.k.a. The Heart of Darkness), where a griot lives that is preserving Black culture. Will Little Emma expose her family for the Black people they really are? Or will the Williams family lose their daughter to a forgotten culture?

Endangered Species is directed by The NATCNY's artistic director DeMone and features Andrew Baldwin, Cherrye J. Davis, Kristin Dawn-Dumas, Brooke Dianna Jones, Nicole Kang, Sheila Moikangoa, Beethovan Oden, Lenny Thomas, Jude Tibeau and C. Kelly Wright.

The staged readings take place on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10 at The Kymberle Project, located at 1332 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, at 8pm. A pre-show cocktail reception begins at 7pm. Tickets are $10 and are available online at Eventbrite (plus service fees), with limited availability at the door: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/endangered-species-tickets-25097659776. The audience is invited to bring a dessert to share during the talkback after the show. Email info@natcny.org for more information.
