The Civilians Debut YOU BETTER SIT DOWN:TALES FROM MY PARENTS’ DIVORCE, 4/7

By:

The Flea Theater and The Civilians present the New York Premiere of The Civilians' YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS' DIVORCE, by Anne Kauffman, Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, Janice Paran and Robbie Collier Sublett. Conceived by Jennifer R. Morris and directed by Anne Kauffman, previews begin April for this limited-run Off-Broadway engagement, with opening night slated for April 12.

Four members of The Civilians sat their parents down and asked them for the real story behind their divorces. Each actor assumes the role of their own mother or father (or in one case, both) in a show crafted entirely from those verbatim interviews. YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS' DIVORCE is shockingly candid, unexpectedly hilarious, and proves that what we want to know about our parents' lives and what we actually should know are two totally different things.

YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS' DIVORCE is performed by Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, and Robbie Collier Sublett with a production team that includes Mimi Lien (scenic design), Sarah Beers (costumes), Ben Stanton (lighting), Leah Gelpe (sound design), Caite Hevner (projection design), and Megan Dickert (stage manager).

Anne Kauffman'S directing credits include This Wide Night (Lucille Lortel Nomination for Direction), Dot, Stunning, Sixty Miles to Silver Lake, God's Ear, Have You Seen Steve Steven?, The Thugs (Obie Award), Loyal Opposition, Hang Ten, and The Ladies Off-Broadway as well as numerous regional productions. She is the recipient of a Barrymore Award for Best Direction and Best Overall Production for Becky Shaw, Big Easy Award for Best Direction for Children's Hour, Alan Schneider Award, and a Lilly Award.

YOU BETTER SIT DOWN: TALES FROM MY PARENTS' DIVORCE runs April 7 - May 6, Tuesday - Saturday @ 7pm, Saturday & Sunday @ 3pm. Note: No show on April 8, but there is an added performance on Monday, April 9 @ 7pm. The Flea is located at 41 White Street between Church and Broadway, three blocks south of Canal, close to the A/C/E, N/R/Q, 6, J/M/Z and 1 subway lines. Tickets are $35 (except for Tuesday, which are Pay-What-You-Can) and are available by calling 212-352-3101 or online at www.theflea.org.
