Target Margin Theater Announces 2019 Lab Artists, Fellows, And Artists-in-Residence

After opening its first permanent home in November 2017, Target Margin Theater (TMT) is proud to announce that 15 artists, via three distinct programs, will be supported in 2019. The Company's new home, located in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, has enabled TMT to deepen their support of the next generation of theater makers through its annual incubator LAB festival, it's five-year-old fellowship program, and its new artist-in-residency program.

In June 2019, Target Margin Theater will continue its support of emerging artists through their annual TMT lab festival. This year's edition, News of the Strange, will commission three new works by emerging artists including TMT Associate Artistic Director Moe Yousuf, Syrian / Palestinian / American dance artist Leyya Tawil, and The Million Underscores (led by Colombian born theater director Nicolas Noreña & Timothy Scott).

The Target Margin Theater Institute is a year-long fellowship that provides five artists space, support, and a $1,000 stipend to challenge themselves and their art-making practice. The 2019 Institute Fellows are Sarah Dahnke, Mashuq Mushtaq Deen, Yoni Oppenheim, Gabrielle Revlock, and Sarah K. Williams.

The Target Margin Theater Residency Program provides established, mid-career and emerging artists up to 100 hours of dedicated rehearsal and developmental space with the opportunity for a free public showing at no cost. The 2019 Winter / Spring Artists-in-Residence are Tanisha Christie, Meta-Phys Ed., Sugar Vendil, and Chana Porter, Sarah Hughes & Deepali Gupta.

"Target Margin is overjoyed to join the vibrant cultural scene in Sunset Park. Our new home here lets us support more artists than ever and make space for the next generation of theater makers. I'm excited to see what vital questions these 15 artists will ask in their work," says Target Margin's Founding Artistic Director David Herskovits. "As alternative performance spaces continue to vanish, we see a bright future in South Brooklyn. I'm humbled that as Target Margin has matured into a more diverse and democratic company, we're able to expand our resources and help keep all of New York City at the forefront of theatrical innovation."

Additional details on the various programs and artists can be found below and online at targetmargin.org. Target Margin Theater is located at 232 52nd Street in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.
