The lamentable tragedy of TITUS ANDRONICUS by William Shakespeare will perform free shows at The Schapiro Theatre, located at 605 W. 115th Street, New York, NY. The production runs today, January 10-12, 2014.

In TITUS ANDRONICUS, the Hero of Rome returns to an empire divided between brother and brother. To soothe the troubled shades of his twenty-one dead sons - he murders the Goth Queen's eldest, hewing his flesh on a sacrificial pyre. To return the favor, the Queen, her lusty sons, and her lovely Moor dig a bottomless pit for the Andronici to drown in. As reprisal, rape, and ruin run mad, the jaws of vengeance yawn wider and wider.

Shakespeare's first and fiercest tragedy wades knee-deep in blood, a messy meditation on the high cost of vengeance. Served a la carte and without a break (sliced and diced to get the meat off the bone), this dismembered dish is a brutal feast for the eyes, ears, the tongue - the kind of meal you can't miss, if you can stomach it.

With no intermission and a less-than-90-minute-runtime, this is breakneck bard done the way the philosopher saw life: nasty, brutish, and short -- performed with a cast of young actors from a wide array of backgrounds, an emphasis on bringing the text viscerally to life and off the page.
