Storm Theatre Co. to Open 2013-14 Season with THE PLAY'S THE THING, 9/20-10/26
Storm Theatre Company (Artistic Director Peter Dobbins), presents the first production of their 2013-2014 season, The Play's The Thing by Ferenc Molnar, adapted by P.G. Wodehouse with performances starting on September 20th. The limited engagement will run through October 26th. Storm Theatre Company is located at The Theatre of the Church of Notre Dame, Morningside Drive between 114th and 115th Street (1 block from Columbia University).
Under the direction of Peter Dobbins, the cast features Andy Allis, Spencer Aste, Joe Danbusky, James Henry Doan, Alexis Kelley, Jeff Kline and Brian Linden. Scenic design is by Josh Iacovelli; costume design by Molly Mastrandrea; sound design by Marisa J. Barnes and lighting design by Michael Abrams. Stephen Logan Day is Assistant Director.
In a castle on the Italian Riviera, illicit romantic protestrations are heard through its walls leaving a sensitive young composer facing devastation and heartbreak, and the celebrated writing team of Mansky and Turai facing humiliation and financial ruin. Only Sandor Turai remains calm and cool in finding a solution when he realizes "the play's the thing..."
This production marks the first in a Molnar retrospective by the theatre company. Over the next two seasons, the company will stage two other Molnar plays, the next being "The Good Fairy". In 2012, the Storm Theatre Company produced the critically acclaimed Molnar play "The President", adapted by Morwyn Brebner. Artistic Director Peter Dobbins said "Although his name has been largely forgotten, his work's delightful combination of wit, warmth and wisdom has had a lasting impact on both theatre and film. The Storm is delighted to bring about the new examination of this great playwright's work."
Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm. Additional performances 9/23, 10/16 and 10/23 at 7:30 pm and Saturday matinees 10/5, 10/12, 10/19 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $25.00 and are available on www.smarttixs.com or 212 868-4444.
