STANDBY, Starring Mike Backes, Michael-Anthony Souza and More, to Run 8/10-26 as Part of FringeNYC
Alfred Solis and Keith Robinson will present STANDBY - The Musical as part of the 16th annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC. The show will have five performances: 8/10 7PM, 8/14 2:30PM, 8/18 12PM, 8/22 5PM, 8/23 7PM at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal St. New York, NY 10012 - (Venue#10).
The new musical STANDBY is a story of redemption and hope; the belief that if you hold on through tragedy and heartache, you will find there is always something to live for. Though the pressures of life may drive a person to the point of no return, it is love and companionship that can bring a person back from the brink.
While waiting to catch their flight, five strangers are bumped to the standby line and forced to decide amongst themselves who is most deserving of the next flight out. What they soon realize is that this isn't any ordinary terminal, and their meeting is by no means a coincidence. It is the choices they must make in order to move on to their final destination that challenge everything about their lives they hold to be true. The production is Directed by Marc Eardley, with Music Direction by Keith Robinson and Robert Cookman, Musical Staging by Leasen Almquist, Set Design by Marissa Bergman and Lighting Design by Diana Bayne.
Nine years ago, in San Diego, CA, when we began writing the book, music and lyrics to STANDBY, we dreamed of one day showcasing this powerful work at the New York International Fringe Festival. As fate would have it, here we are! As a show that captures the strengths and downfalls of the human condition, the characters of Richard, Samantha, Andrew, Jonathan and Cynthia are symbolic of circumstances that many people face today, whether it be loss of a loved one, security or self respect. Not only do these struggles make the headlines on a daily basis, but for many people, the stories are all too familiar. Through this musical journey, we hope these characters speak and sing to you as clearly and beautifully as they have to us.
