Rosie's Broadway Kids Return to Theatre 80 9/25

By:

Fresh from their performance with Rosie O'Donnell and Cyndi Lauper at Monday night's "Rosie's Building Dreams for Kids Gala," ROSIE'S BROADWAY KIDS will be at Howl! Arts Project 2010 with ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical, and THE
HARLEM RENAISSANCE: THIS JOINT IS JUMPIN', a musical tribute inspired by Harlem, to be presented at 2pm on Saturday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, respectively, at downtown's Theatre 80 (80 St. Mark's Place). All tickets $5 with proceeds to benefit The Actors
Fund's HOWL! H.E.L.P. (Howl! Emergency Life Project).

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR. is a vibrant one-act musical retelling of Han Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid," adapted for teens. Set in the French Antilles and detailing the romance between a peasant girl, Ti Moune, and a wealthy aristocrat, Daniel Beauxhomme. The show features book, lyrics, and score by the Tony Award-winning duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (RAGTIME), and is best known for its Caribbean-tinged songs - most notably, "Waiting for Life" and "Why We
Tell The Story." ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR. features Rosie's Broadway Kids in grades 6-12.

THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE: THIS JOINT IS JUMPIN' is a one-act presentation of musical numbers inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, one of the most culturally significant periods in New York and
American history. 'Drop Me Off in Harlem,' 'That's How You Jazz," and "This Joint is Jumpin" and others well-known songs are featured in this lively production, performed by Rosie's Broadway Kids in grades 6-8.

Rosie's Broadway Kids is an arts education organization, founded by Rosie O'Donnell, dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the arts. Using professional teaching artists, Rosie's Broadway Kids offers classes in dance and music and a professional theater experience for children who might otherwise not have the opportunity. Its goal is to inspire excellence, motivate learning, uplift the human spirit and to instill a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

A month-long series of music, film, theater, performance art and more, HOWL! ARTS PROJECT was conceived as a series of events taking place at a variety of downtown venues throughout September to benefit H.E.L.P. (Howl! Emergency Life Project). H.E.L.P. is an emergency assistance
fund, administered through The Actors Fund, supporting East Village artists. HOWL! ARTS PROJECT presents wildly diverse programming at affordable costs to the whole family. Artists of all disciplines
impart talent and pleasure galore as they showcase developing and finished work in traditional and experimental theatrical productions, gallery offerings and more.

In addition to Rosie's Broadway Kids, upcoming performances at Theatre 80 include Tammy Faye Starlight in CHELSEA MADCHEN (Sept 21 at 8pm); the TWEED Music Series presents Carnaby Street: The Sensational Sixties (Sept 24 at 8pm); David Caudle's THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM (Sept
25 & 26 at 8pm); Our Lady J and The Train-to-Kill Gospel Choir present GOSPEL FOR THE GODLESS; and more.
