New York Shakespeare Exchange Celebrates the Bard's 450th Birthday with Sneak Peek Screening of SONNET #63 Today

New York Shakespeare Exchange (Ross Williams, Artistic Director) celebrates Shakespeare's birthday with the premiere of Sonnet #63, directed by Josh Barrett and starring Austin Pendleton, for THE SONNET PROJECT at a viewing party at Amity Hall (80 West 3rd Street, between Thompson and Sullivan) today, April 22 from 7 - 11 PM. Raise a glass to the Bard for his 450th birthday as New York Shakespeare Exchange celebrates Shakespeare's birthday. During the party, party-goers get a sneak peek at Sonnet #63, filmed at the Greywacke Arch in Central Park starring Austin Pendleton, on the big screen before its online release the following day. The event also includes live performances, Shakespearean trivia, and door prizes.

Leading up to the Shakespeare's 450th, the NYSX is releasing Sonnet #76, starring Tony Award-winner Len Cariou (recent TV credits include Blue Bloods and Damages). Directed by Kyle Beechey. Sonnet #76 was filmed at the renowned Kettle of Fish in the West Village, where beat poets like Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac were regulars.

As part of their commitment to making Shakespeare accessible to everyone, everywhere, New York Shakespeare Exchange 's extraordinary the SONNET PROJECT creates short films from all 154 of Shakespeare's love poems with 154 actors in 154 unique locations around the five boroughs, bringing together the classical poetry of the Bard with the urban poetry of New York City. Each short film is released on the website www.SonnetProjectNYC.com and via the SONNET PROJECT mobile app (available for free for iPhone and Android). Once all 154 sonnets are filmed, the SONNET PROJECT will create a unique Sonnet Walking Tour of NYC neighborhoods.

NYSX's SONNET PROJECT was financed by one of Kickstarter's most successful theatrical fundraising endeavors to date raising $49,255.

New York Shakespeare Exchange offers innovative theatrical programming that explores what happens when contemporary culture is infused with Shakespearean poetry and themes in unexpected ways. Providing fresh points of entry to the work so that modern audiences will be exposed to the intrinsic power of Shakespeare, their goal is to encourage an enthusiastic appreciation of classical theater and to expand the reach of the art form within new and existing audiences.
