NYU Steinhardt To Stage GUYS AND DOLLS NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance will present the musical Guys and Dolls from September 20-24, 2018. The show features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, and is based on a story and characters of Damon Runyon. Annika Boras directs and Cynthia Cahill is the associate director.

Guys and Dolls explores the New York underworld as depicted in Damon Runyon's short stories. The musical tells the story of Nathan Detroit, a crap game gambler trying to to find a new life for himself and his showgirl fiancé, and the unlikely pair Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown (one is a high-rolling gambler; the other a straitlaced missionary). Guys and Dolls journeys from Cuban dance clubs to the sewers of New York City to show the determination of a guy in love with a "doll". Since its Broadway debut in 1950, the show has enjoyed numerous revivals on Broadway and West End. Among the show's enduring classics are "Luck Be a Lady" and "If I Were a Bell".

The production is the first official collaboration between NYU Steinhardt's Vocal Performance program and the newly-launched NYU Broadway Orchestra which is training aspiring musicians for a career on the theater strip. Ted Sperling-music director for the NYU Broadway Orchestra-is collaborating on the NYU Steinhardt production and served as musical director for the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls in 2009.

NYU's production of Guys and Dolls runs September 20-22 and 24 at 8 p.m. and September 23 at 3 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street. Tickets are $20 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. For tickets, contact NYU Box Office at tickets.nyu.edu, call 212.998.4941, or visit in person at 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South).

Guys and Dolls features music direction by Ana Flavia Zuim, choreography by Natalie Wisdom, scenic design by Edward T. Morris, lighting design by Jimmy Lawlor, and sound design by Benjamin Furiga. The production stage manager is Cynthia Cahill. The cast features NYU Steinhardt students Kelsey Andridge, Erica Bigelow, Laura Bright, Jack Buxton, Tony Carrubba, Patrick Clark, Jose Contreras, Dillon Drozdz, William Eastland, Hope Fennig, Leah Hall, Tyler Holladay, Jordan Hope, Seth Huggins, Saki Inoue, Joshua Kahn, Stevie LeWarne, Laura Mehl, Andrew Melendez, Joey Mervis, Jacqueline Minogue, Miranda Mower, Marcos Ospina, Ian Pekar, Anissa Perona, Mary Rice, Danielle Salomon, Benjamin Salters, Chloe Savit, Garrett Shin, Bern Tan, Gabriel Taylor, Kiara Wade, and Garrett Wilson.
