MR. SATAN GOES TO WALL STREET to Play Zuccotti Park Today, 8/17

By:

Award-winning guerrilla-theater company the Imagination Liberation Front premieres their latest political piece, MR. SATAN GOES TO WALL STREET, in Zuccotti Park today, August 17th, 2012. Subsequent performances will take place in public parks around New York City, followed by a tour to the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in Tampa Bay, FL, and Charlotte, NC.

Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street tells the story of Satan after he is laid off from Hell because humanity has become too adept at doing evil. To get his job back, Satan makes a deal with neoliberal economist Larry Summers to break up Occupy Wall Street. But the love between two young OWS activists might shake the Devil’s beliefs. What would Satan do? Our answer: He’d sing!

Co-authors Hieronymous BANG and Sam Precario state: “We created Mr. Satan to raise consciousness, to challenge OWS to articulate an alternative vision with mass appeal, and to turn the re-occupation of Zuccotti Park into five-star theater. We oppose violence and boredom. We wield theater as a powerful tool for social change. We mass-produce that tool through cathartic indoctrination.”

Collaborating with the Imagination Liberation Front, Hieronymous BANG wrote and directed the guerrilla comedy smash “I’m Gonna Kill the President!” A Federal Offense, which ran for five years, in well-known venues like PS122 in New York and Highways in L.A., as well as in parks, parking lots, basements, warehouses, alleys, community centers and living rooms across the U.S. President! wormed its way into mainstream media like Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the New York Post, and countless more. The show received an L.A. Weekly Award for Special Achievement in 2006 and went to the 2007 Spoleto Festival in South Carolina.

Preliminary Los Angeles performances of Mr. Satan have already drawn attention, with a great review in the LA Weekly and an interview on KPFK 90.7-FM.

Locations of performances will be announced on a need-to-know basis on the Mr. Satan blog, http://mrsatangoestowallstreet.blogspot.com/. Reservations can be made by emailing imaginationliberation@gmail.com with your name, the number in your party, and the date and time of the performance you wish to attend. New York performances will take place in various parks at 7:30pm and 10:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, 8/17, 8/18, 8/24 and 8/25; with a 5pm performance on Sunday, 8/19. Performances will take place on every day of each National Convention. For a complete performance schedule, including locations, refer to http://mrsatangoestowallstreet.blogspot.com/.
