Lehman Center for the Performing Arts Announces BLUES BROTHERS Tribute for 2/25

By:

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts will present THE ALL NEW ORIGINAL TRIBUTE TO THE BLUES BROTHERS, the critically acclaimed featuring cast members from the original West End run on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 8pm.

Jake and Elwood Blues will once again be donning their iconic hats, sunglasses and suits to bring to life a host of the duo’s most memorable hits, including “Shake A Tail Feather,” “Think,” “Respect,” “Gimme Some Loving” and the toe-tapping classic “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love.”

This production is directed by Brad Henshaw who will also star in the show as “Jake.” The West End show has been upgraded with a brand-new set, updated choreography and new songs. The show is a joint production by Charles Aerts Theatre Productions and EJB Entertainment.

The Blues Brothers was a blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Lead vocalist “Joliet” Jake Blues, originally played by John Belushi, and harmonica player/vocalist Elwood Blues, played by Dan Aykroyd, fronted the band, composed of well-known and respected musicians. The band began a life beyond the confines of the television screen, releasing an album, Briefcase Full of Blues, and two films, “The Blues Brothers (1980) and “Blues Brothers 2000” (1998).

“The All New Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers” made its modest premiere in a small seaside pub in Brighton, England in 1991. Theater producer David Pugh and film director David Leyland opened the show in the West End just six months later. It won a BAFTA Award for Best New Musical, and the run was extended from six to an unprecedented 46 weeks, playing to more than 150,000 people. The show made its North American debut in a triumphant three-week run in Chicago last July.

The memorable songs and characters live in “The All New Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers” as “Jake and Elwood” continue to entertain audiences throughout the world. Brad Henshaw plays “Jake” and Daniel Fletcher stars as “Elwood.” The duo is backed by one of Europe’s finest six piece bands, along with three soulful and sassy singers, Jocasta Almgill, Victoria Ekanoye and Victoria Goddard, aptly named “The Bluettes.”

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lehman Center box office at 718.960.8833 or at www.LehmanCenter.org.
