King's Head Theatre Announces Final Performances of CORONATION OF POPPEA
By: Nicole Rosky
Mark Ravenhill's ‘The Coronation of Poppea' announces last three dates. Following its 3 month sell out run, the critically acclaimed ‘The Coronation of Poppea' is closing the summer season at the King's Head Theatre with its final 3 shows on the 29, 30 and 31 August. Monteverdi's tale of the triumphant adultery between Poppea and Roman Emperor Nero gets a radical treatment in Mark Ravenhill and Alex Silverman's new version, with a new jazz-inspired orchestration, and a world-class cast of singers. The show is directed by OperaUpClose Associate Director Mark Ravenhill, who made his directorial debut with the company and features a new aria written by Michael Nyman.
The King's Head Theatre is London's first pub theatre since Shakespeare's time, with 45 West-End/Broadway transfers to its credit. Adam Spreadbury-Maher became the venue's second Artistic Director in February 2010 and has since established a programme of Opera and Musical Theatre, reinventing the venue as London's Little Opera House. The theatre is now home to a repertory season of in-house productions by resident company OperaUpClose (with Co-Artistic Director Robin Norton-Hale).The Coronation of PoppeaBy Monteverdi
