Hudson Warehouse Stages MEASURE FOR MEASURE Through March 22

By:
A Transgender brothel owner. A suave Pimp. A loud-mouth Boston Cabbie. That's what comes with Hudson Warehouse's "Measure For Measure". Also, look out for a Chinese Food delivery man, a priest on the prowl, and death warrants -- loads of death warrants. Take all these people and place them in ultra-conservative Boston in the 1950's and you've got an evening of high stakes, repressed desires, and life and death drama.

Hudson Warehouse's 2014/2015 Season continues with a three week run of "Measure For Measure" at the Art Center of Goddard Riverside's Bernie Wohl Center.

Directed by the company's Artistic Director, Mr. Martin-Smith explains, "It's about a young woman who is helpless in the hands of a predator. It's the story about the abuse of power by a religious leader in the community."

There are a couple of contemporary twists, namely, the pop songs. "I really wanted to explore the inner life that contradicted what was happening in the external world," explains Mr. Martin-Smith. Artist-in-Residence Christopher Moore adds, "On surface level the music seems strange and inappropriate. You're watching a play that's dealing with very complex societal issues and we're listening to a pop song."

The Warehouse's Award winning Costume Designer Emily Rose Parman is front and center as novice and unwitting victim Isabella who is trapped between a brother with a death sentence and the Priest Angelo. Alexander Taylor returns after his stint in the Warehouse's 2014 Julius Caesar to portray Angelo, the predatory priest who gives Isabella a shocking ultimatum: You want your brother to live? Then you must sleep with me.

Artist-in-Residence Vince Phillip returns as the Duke, a man who disguises himself as a Friar to walk freely among his people and see all the corruption, social ills, and problems plaguing his people.

The cast is rounded out with Austin Boykin, David Frisch, Joe Hamel, Hiro Honda, Roxann Kraemer, Christopher Moore, Kitty Mortland, Nathan Oesterle, Brian Scanlan, Roger Stude and Alli Urbanik.

The show runs Thursday through Saturday nights at 8:00pm, Sunday nights at 7:00pm through March 22nd. The Arts Center at Goddard Riverside's Bernie Wohl Center 647 Columbus Ave at W. 91st Street. For tickets, go to www.eventbrite.com/e/measure-for-measure-by-wm-shakespeare-tickets-15613065098.
