Description:

Following a sold out sensation last year Tamar-kali returns with a totally new and titillating Valentine's Day salute. Presented as a treatise on love, this multidisciplinary performance piece personifies desire, passion, infatuation and heartbreak through illusion, burlesque, aerial spectacle, dance and song. Tamar-kali's alterna-classical hybrid project; Psychochamber Ensemble anchors this bold presentation.

With this performance, Tamar-kali is working from a history of cabaret but promoting a little known, and neglected Black presence. She is re-writing the book on cabaret, presenting it in an innovative and contemporary context, with original script, music and in an atmosphere thematically designed for the event. Tamar-kali has been performing at Harlem Stage for over 10 years periodically. Most recently as the Spring 2010 as music director for Black Rock Coalition's Nina Simone Tribute, the launch of Cabaret Chocolat in November of 2009 and earlier in the decade at Aaron Davis Hall on two occasions.

Performers:

Tamar-kali

Pshychochamber Ensemble

Marni Rice (accordioniste/chanteuse)

Marco The Magician (narrator)

Maine ‘The Maine Attraction' Anders (Enchantress)

Mariel Berger (Ghost Piano)

Tamar-kali: Psychochamber Ensemble

As a composer and vocalist Tamar-kali has defied genres and blended styles to craft her own unique sound. This 'Heart & Bones' project is a haunting and mesmerizing look right into her soul. Blending the classical music influences of her Catholic upbringing with the fire and energy of the post-hardcore sounds that saved her, Tamar-kali weaves a sonic tapestry that shatters expectations and shakes your foundation with soulful intensity.

Tamar-kali has shared her voice and vision with international audiences at Festivals such as the Peiferias Festival - Spain, Sons D'hiver - Paris and Omiala: A Festival of New Black Culture at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre as well as NYC venues Joe's Pub, HarlemStage, Lincoln Center Out of Doors and Central Park Summerstage. Her eclectic sound and versatility has allowed her to share stages with a diverse list of artists from John Legend, and Cassandra Wilson to Me'shell Ndegeocello and Roy Ayers.
