The tortured and tragic life of Frida Kahlo, famous Mexican painter & feminist icon, comes to life in Susan Rybin's powerful one-woman show.

Through vibrant imagery, colorful costumes and props, and mariachi music, "Frida Kahlo" is a surreal theatrical journey into the mind of the larger-than-life mid-century Mexican artist.

It paints a compelling portrait of the turbulent life and times of the tragic figure who became an icon to women and artists all around the world after her death.

Frida Kahlo inexplicably survived a gruesome accident at the age of 18 where a metal bar pierced her body, and she lived her life constantly with the threat of death every step of the way. After over 30 surgeries, her only solace would be to "paint and put [her] wounds on display".

As part of the ONE Festival, the world's largest solo festival with over 130 productions to date, "Frida Kahlo" stands out with the directoral and performance elements that break all boundaries, bringing the audience into Frida's world and including them in this unique experience.

TheaterPizzazz.com describes it as "a chronical shared in a confrontational fashion...Susan Rybin seems to BE Frida Kahlo. The actress creates a multilayered portrait with blood and sinew."

Having started as a child actress in the New York Latino theater movement, Susan Rybin immerses herself into the character, a magnificently raw, honest, and progressive portrayal of Frida and all she stands for.

"Rybin's compelling, shocking, dramatic portrayal captures and draws you in to Kahlo's agonized mind, mangled body and anguished soul. MUST ABSOLUTELY SEE", exclaimed Dr. Judy Kuriansky, media personality, noted psychologist, Columbia University Teachers College Professor and United Nations NGO representative.

Director Luis Caballero has directed and performed in theater and film for over 30 years, having directed successful shows such as "La Lupe" at The Lab Theater at The Public Theater and short films such as "El Color De La Guayaba".

After a successful sold out first performance on September 15th, "Frida Kahlo: Long Live Life" will come back for an encore performance on Saturday, October 6th at 9PM.
