DIVIDING THE ESTATE Opens Heights Players' 2013-14 Season Tonight
By: BWW News Desk
Acclaimed playwright Horton Foote's knowing comedy about family, money, power and greed is having its Brooklyn premiere at the Heights Players this September. Considered a "must for discriminating theatergoers" by The New York Times, Dividing the Estate will delight with its laughs and yet captivate with its page-turning drama about a rapacious Southern family tangling over finances.
As with many of Foote's plays, Dividing the Estate is set in the fictional town of Harrison, Texas in 1987. This prize-winning play focuses on the Gordon clan, led by octogenarian StElla Gordon. In the late 1980s, the country is facing a shifting economy. The Gordon family must confront their past as they prepare for an uncertain future while facing plunging real estate values and unexpected tax bills. As their fortune begins to diminish, various members of the family - particularly Stella's greedy children - prepare to divide her estate ... while she is still alive!September 6-22, 2013
