BAYARD Provides Free Theater Tickets To New York Students

BAYARD: A New Musical will premiere at El Teatro of El Museo Del Barrio, August 9th-August 10th, 2019 in partnership with SCAN NY, Boys & Girls Harbor, Gay Men's Health Crisis, and Facing History.

Richard Allen and Taran Gray, creators of FREEDOM RIDERS: The Civil Rights Musical and BAYARD: A New Musical, have partnered with Boys & Girls Harbor, Inc and SCAN NY to deliver free theater tickets to underserved students and families for the August, 2019 production of BAYARD: A New Musical in Harlem, NY.

The musical follows civil rights icon Bayard Rustin's construction of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom in 1963 and the discrimination he encountered coming from all sides as he fought to unite everyone for the common purpose. Donations to provide free tickets for students and families can be made at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/akpv2f-tba. General admission tickets available at: https://www.scanny.org/bayard-a-new-musical/

Richard Allen AND Taran Gray

The writers of BAYARD: A New Musical. Richard Allen and Taran Gray are emerging activist artists who refuse to let the modern times be the epitaph for the Civil Rights Movement allowing advocacy of justice for minorities and the disenfranchised to die. They are leaders in a revival of remembrance. Without preaching or judgment, they are lifting their voices to sing until earth and heaven ring with the harmonies of unsung heroes. Richard Allen and Taran Gray are San Diego natives turned producers of award winning musical theater with a civil rights message who don't ever seem to take a break or rest from their mission to initiate conversation on equality and acceptance through their historically accurate musicals, FREEDOM RIDERS: The Civil Rights Musical and BAYARD: A New Musical.

SCAN NEW YORK

SCAN New York is a non-profit young and family service organization that provides a variety of integrated supports to the highest risk children and families of Harlem, East Harlem, and the South Bronx. Serving over 7,000 children and teens and 1,000 adults and families each year at 22 program sites, SCAN is the largest youth service provider in the communities it serves. Traditional young and family service providers typically target their client's problems and then terminate program delivery at the resolution of the presenting problem. SCAN considers the traditional "service termination" as a beginning-we employ a strength-based, empowerment-focused service approach, building upon individual and family strengths, inspiring our children and their families toward positive goals. The agency has over 80 full-time and 300 part-time employees with an annual budget of over $15M. SCAN has been led by its Executive Director, Lewis Zuchman, an original 1961 Freedom Rider, since 1987.
