Alwan for the Arts presents Collection of Me on November 18, 2011, 8pm at Alwan for the Arts, 16 Beaver Street, 4th fl. Tickets are $15/$10 for Alwan members, students and seniors. Tickets can be pre-purchased at: www.Alwanforthearts.org.

Weaving together excerpts from four full-length dance-theater works, Collection of Me intertwines themes of love, death and personal identity. With her intrepid eye cast on her relation with others and herself, choreographer and dancer Salma Allam draws on her life experience to reveal a personal narrative through text and dance. She stunningly blends the lines and vocabulary of contemporary dance with movement and gestures inspired by her Egyptian heritage

Salma Allam is a dancer, actor, choreographer and writer of Egyptian decent. As a dancer she has toured Asia and worked with several modern dance and ballet companies in New York and Connecticut. She has danced in the independent films Bolden and The Great Explorer, as well as the television show Caprica . While on tour with Don Omar, Salma had the opportunity to dance through North and South America. She has also appeared in Summerstage with Viewsic Expressions under artistic director Germaul Barnes. Her training includes the Ailey School were she was selected to perform with the company in Memoria, the Merce Cunningham Studio, where she received her two-year certificate, and the Deena Levy Theater Studio. Salma is co-founder of Movement in C, and is artistic director of Salma Allam Dance Theater. Her choreography credits include, Eternal Bleeding which is dedicated to sito (grandma), Bound by Love, Things My Mother Taught Me: A Daughter's Journey, and Roses on the Floor.

Alwan for the Arts serves the Arab community and educates the broader public by showcasing a range of cultural events, thereby enriching the cross- cultural and artistic encounter. Alwan is committed to maintaining a space for reflection, dialogue, and growth in the arts and cultures of the peoples of the Middle East, North Africa, and the diaspora.
