Abingdon Theatre Company continues its Page2Stage Reading Series with TEMPLE OF THE DOG by Tom Dillehay at Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex (312 West 36th Street) on Monday, September 23 at 7:30pm. The staged reading is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary. Mark Finley (TOSOS) directs.
About TEMPLE OF THE DOG: Set on a middle Tennessee farm, the drama depicts 18 year-old Ben's yearning to escape his abusive and oppressive home and to become his own man. With a mixture of the poetic and cruel violence, the play dramatizes Ben's struggle to break free even if it means sacrificing the youth and innocence of Ricky Lee, who will replace him as caretaker of the crippled Taylor and emotionally dependent Wanda. The cast for TEMPLE OF THE DOG includes Elizabeth Bell, Oliver Houser, Irene Longshore and Jason Pintar. Upcoming Page2Stage staged readings include WAITING FOR THE BUS by Jean Reynolds, directed by Alan Wynroth on Monday, September 30 at 7:30pm and BLUE PERIOD by Charles Borkhuis, directed by Jackob G. Hofmann on Monday, November 18 at 7:30pm. Abingdon Theatre Company is currently celebrating its 21st Season of producing new American plays. The 2013-14 Season offers Mainstage productions, The Sunday Series, Pop Up Playhouse, the Page2Stage Readings Series, educational initiatives, special events, and more to be announced. Abingdon's 21st Annual Benefit Gala, SWINGING ON A STAR, is set for Monday, October 7 at Espace (635 West 42nd Street), honoring Frances Sternhagen, Barbara Blair Randall and Sheila Burkert.
