Sandra Laub's PICKING UP STONES to Play MITF at American Theatre of Actors
Performances will take place Friday, June 26, Saturday, June 27, Sunday, June 28, Thursday, July 2, Friday, July 3, Saturday, July 4.
Picking Up Stones will be a featured event at the Midtown International Theatre Festival. This one-woman show is written and performed by Sandra Laub and produced by Jerry Fischer.
"Picking Up Stones" is an 80-minute intermissionless journey that confronts the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the personal lens of an American Jewish woman processing the aftermath of October 7, 2023. Using stones as a central metaphor for memory and historical weight, Laub brilliantly inhabits 21 distinct voices-ranging from Golda Meir and slain peace activist Vivian Silver to contemporary soldiers and mothers-weaving a cross-generational dialogue that searches for a human thread toward peace.
The production won the 2024 Providence Fringe Artists For Artists Award and earning "Highly Recommended" status at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The production features a haunting soundscape by filmmaker/musician Roger James Kuhns and evocative scenic designs by artist Susan Clinard. Each performance is followed by a talkback, inviting the audience to engage with the pressing questions of antisemitism, moral reckoning, and the fractured relationship between the Diaspora and Israel.
The relaunch of the Midtown International Theatre Festival, founded by John Chatterton and produced in partnership with indie luminary Jay Michaels and the landmark American Theatre of Actors, transforms the three-theatre ATA complex into a massive hub of creative innovation from June 15 through July 26, 2026.
